I was home sick last week and barely online in any fashion. I have a doctor’s note for the school I missed and I am not particularly looking forward to my meeting with some profs later today to discuss making up tests/assignments/whatnot. Meh.
Apologies to those of you that had comments not showing up or had to post many many times before something went through. Akismet has been ridiculously hyperactive the last little while and was eating everything. I just disabled it for now and we’ll see what happens. Ignore any spam comments you do see pop up (if any) and I will nuke them individually while I decide on what to do about it later.
Also, woo! I finally broke the 10k barrier on Xbox Live :)

So I worked forever on my 3 law papers that I thought were due earlier today. Nope, WEDNESDAY. While I could have maybe better spent the time on my Humour in Literature paper due tomorrow this does free up Tuesday night for pure theory review for the next day’s test, which I could use. I still don’t understand how I manage to be consistently bad and telling dates apart. I’m a goof.

My first Tuesday class never ever finishes in time for me to get lunch before the mealhall closes yet that hasn’t prevented me from trying every single time. Is that not the definition of madness? To repeat the same action while hoping for a different result. Once again today my rumbling stomach is greeted by locked doors and, this time, a little old lady.
It’s election day in Canada and she was very distressed that the mealhall was closed. Since there wasn’t another soul for fifty metres she turned to me and asked a zillion questions in rapid-fire French.
Why are these doors locked? Have I missed the time to vote? Will they be open later? Did they move the room? Do you know where to vote? etc. While I was initially surprised that “Do you speak French?” was not among her queries I didn’t have any issues understanding her at all. Luckily for both of us, I even knew the answers! While I couldn’t summon the brainpower to respond in French it didn’t seem to bother her at all. She’d go on in French and I’d respond in English and I was able to take her downstairs to where she was supposed to vote. I really wish my French was better; even though I have a large enough vocabulary so I can follow most French media my grammar is atrocious. I’m also really fuzzy on how to bend past and future tenses to my needs even though I can hear when it is done correctly. It’s a mess and one I plan on rectifying either through school or just after it :)

It’s 25C outside! What kind of October weather is this??
I’ve never felt so far behind in school in my life. I read 6 chapters of Law yesterday and I have another 6 to go before the midterm on Wednesday. With the strike the administration promised us that we wouldn’t have any midterms during the first two weeks we return to class. Thus, there should be no midterms last week or this week. How is my law prof getting around this? The paper isn’t due until first thing on Monday’s class. Booooooo. Again, I might be bitter.
I also need to find a copy of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn ASAP since I’m supposed to have that read for Wednesday as well. I’ve been ignoring music since so far I understand what they’ve been talking about but I need to get my keyboard repaired really really soon (C4 doesn’t work and that’s kind of an important key for the pieces I have to play). I’m ahead of the game in my Tragedy class, at least, since I read all the plays during the strike and I had previously read all these works in high school independently because I was totally in love with mythology, especially Greek and Inuit. I keep meaning to read more Norse mythology but it has yet to happen. Then, oh god, there’s Calculus. The next two weeks I might spend every spare minute I have in the Math Resource Room trying to make sure I seriously pound it into my brain.

Actually, let’s not even though we did. ‘We’ referring to everyone at my university since it’s been an odd, odd semester; the likes of which I hope no one has to see again! My faculty was on strike, my administration took the hard line for a while, and finally we had classes this past week. Of course, being out of school for almost 3 whole weeks means that the teeny bit of learning we did way back in early September is long gone and we all sorta feel like we are starting from scratch. The weather here also alternates between late summer and late fall and that isn’t helping matters any.
Am I back? Holy crap I hope so. I get teased by some friends a lot for my online habits and so I was cutting back (practically not online at all outside of school requirements) when these people were around (frequently) and that was just not working for me. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t working too well for those of you that visit this site every day either! Writing is a very necessary cathartic exercise for me and I’ve been so busy I haven’t even been keeping my usual written journal as well. I hate letting that slide. When I revisit them years later there are these huge gaps that just frustrate me. ANYWAY.
This is our long Thanksgiving weekend and even though our newly revised school schedule blows goats they still can’t take away statutory holidays! The fact that I have exams up until December 21st still annoys the heck outta me but at least I have next Monday off and this whole weekend to try and get back on top of things. With the vast majority of the dorms emptying out as people run home for turkey day this will give me perfect peace and quiet so I can focus… or just sing at the top of my lungs and no one can complain! Profs are alternately dumping as much as they can on us as fast as they can to try and get them and us caught up OR they aren’t doing much of anything at all since next week was supposed to be our study break and they realize that those students that made plans to be away are not cancelling expensive plane tickets/family plans so they are just doing nonsense stuff and will kill us with work the week after. It’s a weird mix. Also, so far almost half of my exams have now been switched to take-home papers which I think I appreciate. I’m still likely going to stay in res and get them done here but at least I have the option to maybe go home on the evening of the 20th instead of the 21st. It all depends on whether there’s a blizzard or not ;)
In other news the Final Fantasy IV DS remake is still fun and funny. Haven’t had a chance to play anything else lately but I hope to return to Beautiful Katamari and the last few achievements in Lego Indy this weekend! I’m back online with real internet and Xbox Live so feel free to drop me a message if you see me playing and say hi :)
