writing again

ARGH <-- sums up the last little while. I don't want to talk about it much, actually. I just want to get back to doing things I love and enjoying things as they are. The absolute shortest way I can put it is that I haven't been feeling well the last little while. Long while, actually, I was just ignoring it cause I thought it was a flu or a cold or mono again. I booked a physical with the school docs and they said I was fit as a fiddle, so I ignored it some more. I finally couldn't take it anymore and went home to see my family doc and immediately I got sent in for a CT scan and a bunch of other tests. Exciting times, I tell ya. I see a neurologist early next month. Hopefully I will get in sooner if someone else cancels. So, yeah. I've been feeling like ass and generally not acting like myself and it's a MIRACLE that I have any friends left considering the way I have snapped the last few weeks. It's so mind-boggling to me that I can be unconscious for the vast majority of the day and not feel rested at all and sometimes (more than I want to admit) just bursting-at-the-seams furious and itching for a fight. Note that if I catch any of you playing internet doctor in the comments I will be less-than-pleased!! I can manage to be patient a little while longer :)

Anyway, since it's obviously not going away any time soon and there isn't a whole lot I can do about it aside from suck it up and wait I need to get back to living my life and so on and so forth. Those of you with 360s and PS3s might have seen me pop on a few times at random hours. It's been weird. It's no secret that I love gaming but lately I haven't been able to enjoy it the same way. There are rare days when I love it (finding a Ghostbusters level in Little Big Planet and the odd remix in Boom Boom Rocket) but otherwise it's been very hit and miss. This is really troubling for me since it is the blockbuster gaming season and I've got nothing but great titles to explore in my backlog. Those of you that rapid-fire your F5 key have already noticed that I was playing around with a new theme on OA. As per usual, don't hold your breath and I'm sorry I broke a bunch of old links. I'm just trying to play around and see what strikes my fancy moving forward.

What are you all playing these days? (any system) I wanted to like Mirror’s Edge but I will likely wait until I find a cheap copy. I will also probably look for a cheap 360 copy cause the demo looked way worse on my PS3. I DEFINITELY want more LBP friends so please add LadyGuardian to your PSN friends list if you are similarly inclined. I want to check out more user created levels that other people have hearted and finally play multiplayer with people that aren’t going to give me crap just cause I’m a girl. Seriously. What year is this, people? It makes me laugh when people stop playing and end up dying just cause they had to type a/s/l or tell me off for having the sheer gall to enjoy a game online. Oh well. It just means I beat your score that much easier ;)

I lack a good title for this

I was home sick last week and barely online in any fashion. I have a doctor’s note for the school I missed and I am not particularly looking forward to my meeting with some profs later today to discuss making up tests/assignments/whatnot. Meh.

Apologies to those of you that had comments not showing up or had to post many many times before something went through. Akismet has been ridiculously hyperactive the last little while and was eating everything. I just disabled it for now and we’ll see what happens. Ignore any spam comments you do see pop up (if any) and I will nuke them individually while I decide on what to do about it later.

Also, woo! I finally broke the 10k barrier on Xbox Live :)

I choose you!

Piplup!!

I am stupidly happy about this pillow. I am reconsidering my plan to skip Halloween this year and am contemplating making a Pokemon Trainer costume if I can pull it together next week. Why, yes, I did pick Piplup as my starter :)

old habits die hard

I’ve been a faithful user of Google IG for as long as I can remember now. They changed the name to iGoogle back in May of this year but, as the title aptly states, old habits die hard. Earlier this week Google redesigned the layout of my start page and this change in my routine was an unwelcome disruption. Even though it seems like such a small change — moving tabs from the top to the side — I instantly hated it and have not warmed up to it since. I never even used the tabs! So now tabs that I don’t use take up screen real estate that I do. Also, no live links in gmail = FAIL. It’s silly, it’s almost insignificant, and I refuse to adapt. Thus, I put out a call on twitter to see what everyone uses for a start page so I could update today with my new solution.

iGoogle - while you can play with the layout a bit, you cannot make it like the old one so I’m jumping ship. Yeah, petty, I know.

about:blank - hehe. I guess some people are even more minimalist than I am!

netvibes seemed to have been another popular home page. I used to use this back in the day when I was checking every possible gaming site in the world for news every single hour, so it was handy to have them all divided by region and console. EvoTab let me do much the same thing.

Digg, gmail, and CBC.ca get some mentions as popular start pages as well. I even tried Yahoo and MSN! Since none of these options really jumped out at me as a ‘perfect’ replacement for what I had it really got me thinking. What do I want out of a homepage? What do I use? What would I want to add or take away from my old setup? Well, I was pretty bare bones about the whole Google IG thing anyway. I had my gmail window with 4 messages, no details, showing. I had Date & Time because I am horrible about knowing both what day of the week it is and the date. I also had a Wikipedia search bar cause, hey, who doesn’t waste a few hours a day browsing the wiki?

I spent almost a day with each of the options suggested by twitter followers and, in the end, I keep bouncing between about:blank and gmail. And now I basically leave it so that I start with whatever page I closed the browser with! I switched my search bar in Firefox to Wikipedia instead of goosh and I can always switch back if I want quick access to something else. I don’t tend to use RSS these days and the sites I enjoy browsing are not so great a number that I cannot visit them independently. So, all in all, this is not an earth-shattering change for me but I am much happier now that I am not shaking my fist at google in vain :)

stupid and smart

So I worked forever on my 3 law papers that I thought were due earlier today. Nope, WEDNESDAY. While I could have maybe better spent the time on my Humour in Literature paper due tomorrow this does free up Tuesday night for pure theory review for the next day’s test, which I could use. I still don’t understand how I manage to be consistently bad and telling dates apart. I’m a goof.
