OF THE UNIVERSE

MEN WITH BROOMS, SÉRIE SOBRE CURLING, ESTREIA NO BRASIL NESSA QUARTA-FEIRA! Curling, Leslie Nielsen, Canada … Its go wrong? : D

You need to run that through Google Translate, like so. I don’t know why or how or why or, seriously, why, but they are going to air the series (and not the supremely excellent movie) in Brazil. And Red Bull Brasil is talking about it. That’s a lot of win in one place. Except for the series. It’s, uh, not my favourite. Pick the movie next time, people!

Always remember,

“But I think everyone agrees, is unanimous: the best sport is Curling
OF THE UNIVERSE. : D”

Massive thanks to the excellent Paul Bates and Paul Mather for bringing this important matter to my attention. Granted, some credit also goes to Google Translate for the brilliant quotes.

And, uh, if any of you wonderful people happen to be in Brazil with access to Globosat HD, I am desperate to know how it translates! I swear I don’t like the movie just because Paul Gross plays ‘Chris Cutter’. Even if you don’t like curling — or, like most of the world, don’t know a single thing about it except for SWEEEEEEEEEP! — you should check it out. Heck, see if you have a local curling club and pop in. It’s a blast! Yes, I do watch the Tournament of Hearts and The Brier and Olympic Curling, but that’s not important right now*.

Oh, and you all owe it to yourselves to see Slings & Arrows. Now. And the Men With Brooms movie proper. See? Not all Canadian Content is a painful bore ^_~

*as if you guys needed more proof that I’m a real live Canadian

UPDATE: Thanks to Troy and Roberto, here’s a human-translated version of the article.

If I were to practice any sports, being who I am today, it would
probably be swimming, since that’s what I like the most. However, when
it comes to watching and following, I prefer soccer (go Corinthians!),
american football (go Chargers!) and female volleyball (Jaqueline,
Sheilla). But I think everyone will agree that the best sport in the
universe is curling.

And as we also like TV series and stuff like that, we now have the
best of both worlds: tomorrow is the premier on Globosat HD of “Men
with Brooms”, a 12 episodes series that serves as a sequel to the
Canadian film by the same name, released in 2001, telling the story of
a curling team from Long Bay, Canada. They are not what one would call
“great players”, but there’s no doubt that they try hard… and love
the sport.

The series has Gary (Brendan Gall), the team’s unlucky “skip”; Matt
(William Vaughan), the stupid best friend; Pramesh (Anand Rajaram),
the excentric newbie and owner of a donut sales business; and the
manager of the curling club, Bill (Joel Keller), an aspiring “alpha
male” that usually passes as needy instead.

The movie, from 2002, was one of the most watched in Canada, one of
their biggest productions, and won many awards. And it even had Leslie
Nielsen in the cast.

Curling, Leslie Nielsen, Canada… how could that ever go wrong?

If you are a fan of the sport, like me, don’t forget: starting
tomorrow, every Wednesday, at 8 PM, in Globosat HD, there’s “Men with
Brooms”.
