I have, despite appearances, actually written a ton of stuff lately. The catch is that I’ve written them for other people and places and they are not online yet. I sincerely hope that some of the bigger pieces will be up before Christmas but it’s tricky. I am spoiled by blogs and twitter, thanks to their instant publication and feedback, that it feels odd and super slow to deal with other publication’s pipelines.
On the plus side, I have done a fair chunk of gaming lately. Some good, some bad, some free, some awful horrible annoying pieces of crap that I had to play for work that made me want to stab people. And then there’s Gran Turismo 5. I hope to steal some time tonight before hockey to write up last night’s fruitless experience before I get back to the series I had planned for OpenAlpha. I suspect there will be grievous abuse of racing terminology for titles, most involving laps. Last night would definitely be called ‘Black Flagged’ for how people were driving and how I was feeling about the whole thing.
Back to writing: allow me to dump a bunch of links here for recent work.
Girls’n'Gadgets Wii Holiday Shopping Guide (UK)
Inspired by everyone and their grandmother (well, mostly grandmothers and parents’ co-workers) asking me for advice on buying a Wii this Christmas. Their kids all seem to be after Epic Mickey and Wii Sports Resort! One person’s wife loved Wii Sports Resort so I advised him to pick up the Wii Sports Resort Pack, obviously, but it all went wrong. When he was at the store, he met a guy frantically looking for Super Mario All-Stars — apparently sold out where he checked — and reconsidered the black Wii he was holding in his hand. He assumed that the Mario game Random Guy was looking for was in the Mario bundle and thought it would be worth more. It is an awesome pack, New Super Mario Bros. aside, since the red is cool, but it lacks what his wife was specifically looking for. I was hoping to give him my Wii Sports Resort to make up for it, but I had given that one away earlier. Oops.
Gameshark Dancemasters (Kinect) Review
I really, really wanted to like this game. I’ve warmed up to it a little more since then, but all my complaints still stand. The promised DLC remains nowhere to be found. Hmm. I should check the leaderboards later to see if I’m still anywhere on there like I used to be.
Hak5 Episode 817 – The Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, Nintendo DS emulators and QT programming
Oops. Really should have mentioned this when it came out. Surprise!
Hak5 – Driving Force GT Review
Another thing I completely forgot to mention. Spoiler: I like the wheel.
Much more to come as they go online, including this mysterious title. In actual life news, my teeth are doing much better. Woo. Graduated to semi-crunchy food again! There’s only so long a person can survive on bread and water. Turns out it’s a long time, but it’s also exceptionally boring :)
And now I can add GT5: Black Flagged to the list of recent posts.
*nope, I did not like it at all. I actually got rid of it early on.

No offense intended to the person you were advising, but I smile slightly when speculators (especially half-hearted ones) get burned. Digital products, no matter the medium, are not collectible. I want to slap the Kinect sellers on Amazon marketplace. It’s one of the main positives I see with OnLive. The box starts as the tool it is and the games bring the money.
Awesome too that people are coming to you for advice. All of my “friends” frequently ask about gaming but never actually commit and end up missing a lot of great deals.
Major dental work sucks. Hope it continues to get better. Happy thoughts.
re: your tweet about SSX… this is the trailer they should’ve released instead.
