When did I turn into a ranter?

Today, another annoying thing about the Forza 3 Ultimate Collection. Remember that late October release date? They were kidding. Turns out it’s a ‘soft release’

Hey guys,

We’ve seen feedback on the forums from some people having trouble finding the Ultimate Collection in stores and I wanted to address that.

The release of Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection is a ‘soft’ release. As inventory of the current versions of Forza Motorsport 3 sells out in retail stores, you should begin to see the Ultimate Collection appear on store shelves in the next few weeks. In the U.S., it will be released as a Platinum Hit… so look for “Forza Motorsport 3 Ultimate Collection Platinum Hit.”

Uh, no. Who in their right mind would buy the vanilla Forza 3 when they know the better one is coming? I called my local game stores and their databases all show a December 1st release date. As anyone who has spent time in a game store knows, that’s not a real date. That’s a tentative thing and they have no idea when it’s actually going to show up. I am disappointed. You’d think they’d flood the market with this, just to rub it in Polyphony Digital’s face. There are a zillion things to play this holiday season and now both of the ones I was dying to get my hands on will probably show up the same random week. Well, Forza, you’re probably going to lose that battle. Badly. The only way you’ll win with those of us with multiple consoles would be on price. Or clueless relatives picking random games to give to nieces and nephews.

It’s tremendously disappointing. A brilliant idea marred by poor planning/rollout.
