Dear UPS

by Jenn on Tuesday, October 26, 2010

It’s not your fault that one company sent an empty box. I’m not concerned about that; it’s not your problem. However, consistently leaving large boxes full of expensive tech on my doorstep IS your problem and you make it my problem as a result.

My Logitech Driving Force GT replacement? Left on the wide open doorstep. Games from developers? Doorstep. Peripherals? Close to the doorstep.

There’s one UPS guy that I love. He delivers to me when I am home and, shockingly, when I’m not home he leaves a tag for me to go and pick it up. I’d much rather have to drive and wait in line to grab my stuff instead of explain to companies that I never received their product. This is extremely critical since it’s my job. If it doesn’t fit in the mailbox, stop leaving them on the doorstep, kthx.

They will be getting a call tonight to hopefully address this. In the meantime, I just needed to rant!

They did this to me all the time,
I live in NYC and door steps are almost at the side walk.
and tons of people pass by my doorstep.
and the box UPS leaves says SONY, or APPLE, or AMAZON, or NEWEGG or PIONEER……. see the point.

Someone stole 3 brand new UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor’s
right from my door step because UPS decides to leave it at a door step in high traffic sidewalk in NYC might I add.

I faught with UPS for 3 months until I got tired and got a lawyer.
UPS had to take responsibilities in court the hard way.
because I tried nice way and it did not work.
UPS operators and staff where giving me a hard time and being snotty about it.

I hate UPS.
One measure of advice from me to you.
USE FED-EX……….!!!

The best delivery service in the world………

Weird, I usually request the opposite. Our UPS office is a long way away, so I usually leave a note, sometimes with a few bucks tip attached, asking to leave the package in a specific place.

Sometimes I leave a (clean) trash can in the yard and ask the driver to leave the package there, out of sight and out of the weather.

You might want to consider something like that, with a lock that the driver could lock after he leaves it. And in this case, I would bet you’d get more consistent results by communicating directly with the drivers (via note + tip) than by talking to management.

I also really hate UPS. I bought a $10 EL-strip kit off of ebay. Shipping was $10. They charged me $40 for crossing the border. Never again.

I guess it’s true what they say, UPS stands for Use Purolator Stupid.

So strange. We have to fight with them for the opposite. Of course we don’t have close neighbors or people passing by. Was anything of large value lost? I’d almost want to small claims court over that.

UPS dont get me started on those *insert f bomb and very bad language*. My review copy of Halo ODST ‘dissapeard’ (probely magicly) in their truck. Got checked in and never checked out.

They sended me a form to fill out and and would pay me money for my lost. Well almost 17 months later still no money… What me upset the most is that they call it dissapearing, when i walk to a UPS truck and take somthing its called stealing.

Reading the above reactions it seems that its the same and worse problem in different countrys. *sigh* /nerd rage off

My Kindle was just sitting on the steps the other day too, and I think it was UPS – bastards.

Also, I’d like to point the finger at Amazon and other companies too. Why don’t you ship these things as “signature required”? Seriously, how hard can that be? Then at least they cannot leave it out in the open on my steps.

Ya they left my moms present on my sisters doorstep with just a single ring of the bell. It was the new kindle. I believe that was also suppose to be “signature required”.

Pretty sure FedEx leaves packages too.

I’m also pretty sure you can call them and they’ll put you on a list to not leave packages.

Interesting point: ” If it doesn’t fit in the mailbox, stop leaving them on the doorstep, kthx.”

In the US, anyone who is not a USPS employee engaged on USPS business (IE: delivering the mail), it is a federal offense to leave anything in a mailbox. This once got a guy sent to Alcatraz (true story). I’m guessing that’s not true in Canada…

Kinda lucky here, the FedEx and UPS guys call me when they have a package. Am usually in town every morning….and when I do miss them I’m at the end of their routes so I will get the package around 6 or 7 in the evening…..

Sometimes rural does have it’s advantages….

That’s one of the nice things about the apartment complex I live at. The leasing office receives packages for me. As long as it’s small enough the ladies there can pick up they’ll accept it. In 3 years I haven’t had to go the the UPS\FedEx office to pick up anything I’ve not been home for.

Problem is they leave signature required crap all the time. What are you going to do? Fedex and UPS does this. I’ve seen it done with customers all the time when I worked in a call center that shipped things like drives, monitors, etc. Was a pain in my neck too.

What are you going to do? Bitch and moan about it, but they wont do anything for you. Can’t go to another company…….
