This could well be the end of me. http://www.finalfantasyxi.com/
I liked the original when I first played it on PC and taught myself to fish and DDR at the same time. I liked it on 360 years later when my brother got it for me for Christmas one year to cheer me up. I’m pretty sure I even played FFXI and WoW at the same time for a bit. My brother wants to go back to WoW and now, with my stupidly awesome computer, I’m afraid to go back since Dalaran will be a glorious sight rather than a slideshow with sparkles. I’m not even sure if I’d play play FFXI again on the PC or the 360. ARGH. I can’t do this. I know I can’t. There’s Mario and my friends are increasingly pressuring me to join them in Borderlands but… but… I <3 <3 <3 my Mithran Red Mage. She was so cool. I never even got to my artifact gear!

And, of course, I really want to play http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/ right now already :)

I have some dreary news to help strengthen your resolve if you’d like, if not don’t read any farther.
If I read the TOS for FFXI correctly they dump your character after 3 months regardless of anything. This coupled with Square’s ridiculous billing structure are the reasons I never signed up for it even though I bought the box. No pre-pay cards means no deal.
I can totally see Borderlands though. What platform are you thinking?
Old news for me. I played way back at launch so those characters, since I paid for extra slots, are long gone. I wouldn’t miss my 360 character either since I never left town with her much, it was mostly crafting and fishing. I might miss the zillions of dollars they had, however ;)
And the three months thing is more of a warning than a truth. I could have gotten my 360 character back multiple times long after I quit and received many an e-mail offering such if only I’d come back. There’s no guarantee, outside of that, however. I’d want to start again anyway! The high level forced grouping grind has no fun for me in ANY mmorpg. But I’m reasonably sure I’ll not go back to the old FFXI.
As for Borderlands it’d be 360 and likely as early as next week. As my usual, there are no promises about playing with anybody I don’t already know in person. Mostly because those people would make my life extremely difficult should I be caught playing with other people online, fans or not, instead of them! They are the only reason I’m even considering the game. My theory is that it’s better to get shot in the head in a game than smacked around in real life ;)
Yeah, I was just wondering. I’ve already got Borderlands on PC, but all the bug talk on forums has got me waiting for a patch. Haven’t gone past the opening.
I am one of the those people who don’t quite get MMOs. Haven’t had any fun on the ones I’ve tried, and they are such a huge timesink. That’s a discussion I would like to see. “Why do you MMO?” and actually hear some thoughtful responses from players.
