An Open Letter

Dear Building Management,

I appreciate that you want to keep the exterior of the building looking nice. I’d rather you start with the inside of the building and possibly fixing it so that the elevator stops at every floor instead of randomly skipping 6 and 8, but I don’t have much of a say in the matter. I respectfully ask why grounds keeping must take place at 6 am almost every single day. This sounds expensive. More disturbingly, it sounds rather loud and makes for a lousy way to greet the day. I have an alarm clock for that. It’s already paid for so you aren’t doing me, or anyone else in the building, any favours by providing one of your own. You won’t let the paperboys anywhere near the building so we basically have to fetch it ourselves, thus defeating the purpose of home delivery, but I suppose it’s far more important that the grass remains trimmed down to almost nothing while leaving all the dog poop everywhere. I’m actually rather impressed that they manage to trim the grass around said obstacles. Attention to detail, that’s what matters. For one final request, since I take the stairs every day as I don’t entirely trust our elevators it would be so wonderful if someone could take a broom through there once a month to remove all the random debris scattered around.

Many thanks and I await a corporate form letter response,

Jenn Cutter

man, I like my room and all but I’m slowly going crazy here. They turned on the radiators already so I had to move my room around sooner than anticipated to keep my consoles and PC away from the heat. Being cool and comfortable is the one thing this building can never be accused of being. I might have to look at moving back to Mimico down the line. I love Mimico. I grew up in the area I’m in presently but management is pushing me over the edge :(

What’s the matter with them? Home is sacred, you don’t piss people off where they live, not if a) you want to continue taking their money and b) you value your peace of mind.

Sympathies re: the heat. I’m in a basement apartment and it’s STILL not cool enough for my liking – mainly because the thermostat for central heating is beyond my control, but I digress.

So apparently building management just sucks, the whole world over. I’m in Australia and they pretty much ignorantly do things just like that over here too. It can sometimes be entertaining, though. My favorite is the annual termite inspection where I currently live. Everyone in the building has to be present to easily facilitate access for the pest inspector.

The building contains no wood. Every year the pest guy quizzically makes this discovery and wonders aloud why he’s here (always a different guy).
