the machine with no name

August 26th, 2009 · 12 Comments · kitchen sink

As promised yesterday, here are the specs of my new machine. I am very very happy with it so far. Last night I did cheat and play a ‘quick’ round of Heroes of Newerth with all the pretty turned up. Yup, it was pretty ^_^

Fine, I need to dust. I know.

No overclocking has taken place as of this writing. Too many other things to do first! I am running Vista (which came with the free upgrade to Win7, of course) and have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Alas, poor 1.5…. you served me well but I knew far in advance that you and Vista just don’t talk to one another. I haven’t been able to play around with CS4 a lot yet but I’m very excited about it! Very very excited. It’s almost a pity that I have to work a lot this week but they do pay my rent. I also have to thank my parents for helping me out with the cost as my birthday present, which is how something like this was remotely possible!

Speaking of making things possible, because I like the thinnest possible segues, I have to give TheEggplant a massive MASSIVE shoutout for donating the super sweet videocard!! ^_^

Another thank you goes to mlatin the awesomer AWESOMEST. He knows why.

late note: prices listed at newegg aren’t necessarily what I paid for them! I have contacts, you see.

Damn thats a very very nice PC you have there, looks pretty cool too.

  • Ortzinator

Never understood the appeal of light-up fans and windows in the sides of cases.

  • Ryan

Hey, nice case! I have the same one too!

  • Steve from MT.

Geez, so much for my suggestions:(

  • Steve from MT.

Okay, you spent way to much on the motherboard, and memory. And for a few bucks more you could have gotten a raptor…

  • Bryan

On a positive note; nice cable work.

  • Obey

That’s a very nice rig. You should name it Beastie.

  • nabeel

    It’s a beauty.

  • mlatin

it rules. side note, it actually has 12GB of ram, not just 6GB. they were sold out of the 12GB kit when she ordered, and getting 2x 6GB kits actually ended up being slightly cheaper anyways, due to a different deal, so there ya go.

as for spending too much on the mobo+ram, i guess if you want to deal with ordering everything from a different vendor, then it’s totally possible to get the items cheaper. i’m guessing it was just easier to order everything from a single vendor, and not have to worry/wonder aboot random shipping charges from each/every one of them.

*shrug* any way about it, it’s likely better than what you (generalized you) have, and is a kick-ass box for the price.

    Wow!

Question: Two 2 Seagate Barracuda 1TB drives, and if so, raid?

  • Troy Goodfellow

    You should name it Cynthia.

  • Jenn

Prepare a for a long reply to everyone…

    RDJ134: Thanks!

Ortzinator: I know, eh? I used to feel the same way. Then I spent 5 years with an ugly puke purple beast and decided to go a flashier route this time around! It’s also SUPER QUIET.

Ryan: I <3 it. I had no idea it was going to look as good in person. Hope you are still happy with yours!

Steve from MT.: I’m sorry I didn’t use your (or most of anyone’s!) suggestions for this machine. I had to strike a balance between what I needed, what I could get, what my parents trusted (remember how they wanted me to just buy one from a local store?), get the OS and save way too much money to be able to afford the Adobe upgrade package. It’s that last one that was the kicker! Ouch.

Bryan: woo. It’s so clean in there.

Obey: That was technically the name of my last one ;)

nabeel: it sure is! Boots in no time and opens Photoshop in a second. *swoon*

mlatin the awesomest = win. I had forgotten to mark the [x2] RAM so that probably confused a lot of people :)

Paul: yeah, they are mirrored. For now, anyway. Hopefully I will not go through the space too soon and have to separate them.

Troy: Oh, you! Hopefully no one else will get that ^_^
