Hockey and Dragon Quest and Theatre, oh my

by Jenn on Thursday, July 16, 2009

More hockey, more Dragon Quest, some Theatre, and no mention of G—-B—–s. I discuss some thoughts on NHL 9/10 and explain what shinny is to non-Canadians ;)

I always feel bad when I have to record straight to YouTube with my webcam but some days I just don’t have the time to go through the recording, encoding, and uploading to use my XL2 :(

I never understood why fighting was so frequent in hockey.

(Fun Fact: This is only the third video that you’ve refrained from mentioning Ghostbusters in, keep this up and you’ll ruin my data!)

How shall we market PRODUCT to women? I know, let’s make it pink! Or at least that has been the thought process in the mainstream for the last, I dunno, forever? Consumer electronics in particular in the last decade. I keep waiting for the public backlash but I’m starting to give up hope.

Also, I don’t get this “throw your sticks in the middle and mess ‘em all about” bit.

Or she could do a few minutes of just saying Ghostbusters over and over just to add some weird data to your chart. lol

Thanks for the descript of shinny, definitely something that will probably never happen down here. Too hot, and the city too poorly run.

Shame, when I was a kid(long long time ago) they had an ice rink at the mall here, never did get to try it out. Now the mall no longer exists, they tore it down after Katrina hit.

@Darren
I took the sticks thing to mean it all piles up in the middle, and someone just starts randomly grabbing 2 sticks at a time, one per arm, and tossing them to the side, thereby making up even teams at random.

I’ve never heard of shinny over here in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada)… and I played a ton of for fun hockey at the local outdoor rinks. I never played anywhere we had to pay for ice time though, maybe that’s why I’ve never heard “shinny” before.

The sticks-in-the-middle thing was used a lot though. To confirm, yes that is a common way to randomly decide teams. All sticks in the middle, one guy closes his eyes, another guy mixes the sticks up. The guy with his eyes closed then randomly throws sticks to each side. I miss playing hockey for fun.

Sounds like the NHL ’10 designers are “Slapshot” fans.
Which is also my total knowledge of hockey. Thanx for expanding my database.
