Still not dead and I promise I was off doing very important things! To me. Mostly to my family. But I did manage to get some ‘me time’ during the last week that was critically neccessary to my short-term sanity.
As I cryptically mentioned, I felt like I’ve been waiting for May 13th forever. After Grandpa died before Grandma’s surgery, things were really rough and dark for a while and I was frustrated with the lack of joy in my life at the time. Blindly stumbling online, I discovered that Cynthia Dale was doing a few concerts neaby (near enough, anyway, when you own a car). As many of you might already know, it’s dangerous to have a credit card next to your computer at 4am after you haven’t been sleeping for a week, so I ended up with tickets to both concerts. With the way things were at the time, I was very busy running around trying to keep everyone else happy and I wasn’t sure which of the nights I’d end up having free. Thankfully things started to turn around and I got to enjoy the Richmond Hill concert from the front row. I can’t say enough wonderful things about it. It was beautiful, inspiring, uplifting… and I probably stuck one or both feet in my mouth when I got to meet her afterwards but, hey, I suspect I’ll live and she won’t remember ^_^
During the long weekend I go to take off on my own a few times — a rarity these days. Man, I miss privacy. I miss being able to shower in peace with non-fluctuating water temperatures even more!! — and take some long walk/hikes with my music. It was blissful. On Victoria Day I took a long night walk through Centennial Park to get a great vantage point for all the nearby fireworks. Good times. As usual, I forgot a camera since I try to travel light.
It’s really a shame I forgot to write about Glengarry Glen Ross while it was still playing. n0wak and I conspired to end up there on the same night, albeit nowhere near each other. I’m kinda picky about sitting nice and close so I snagged a front row seat while my poor friend picked up his ticket afterwards and ended up on the balcony. Neither of us knew why Tuesday night seats were so tough to get until after the show when they announced some of the performers were going to come back out for a talkbalk session. Lucky us. While it was not Albert Schultz or Eric Peterson, as anyone could have guessed, it was still lots of fun and I did manage to ask a question. I still haven’t seen the movie but I intend to now that I’ve finally seen the play!
Speaking of seeing the play before the movie, I finally saw Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in The Sound Of Music. Yes, it took until my 20s to watch it. My family has never been big on music, which makes me quite the anomaly, so it never got any play around here. It was pretty great but I still want to see the play again. There are honestly few things that can compete with live theatre! I’m still kicking myself for not knowing about C. David Johnson and Cynthia Dale doing Sound of Music up at Stratford but she sang a few songs from it during the concert, which was predictably great.
It’s too bad that the theatre in Guelph had a flood otherwise I’d be off for a roadtrip with a friend to checkout the other Cynthia Dale concert tomorrow. Thankfully I might end up doing something else interesting in the public eye myself. We shall see since it’s not entirely up to me. I can assure you I will plug the hell out of it if it all comes together this time. It was supposed to happen a week ago before circumstances on my end and a wicked storm conspired against us!
