Hockey, Baseball, and Blood

Who looks forward to blood tests? I’d wager not many. Thankfully I have an awesome family doctor, who has an equally awesome staff, and they make the whole thing basically painless. At hospitals and other places I end up getting poked four times before they get it right and it bruises badly. I’m so glad my doc squeezed me in today instead. The lady there is so good I can even watch the whole thing! It’s pretty cool.

So far it’s been a pretty awesome season for the Jays. As a kid I totally remember the joy throughout the city when the Blue Jays won back-to-back World Series but since then I hadn’t really followed the sport at all. Last year changed all that though and now I’ve seen almost every game again. I’ve never been the biggest fan of summer sports (hockey > *) so I’d stick to the ice year-round and was extremely grateful when my parents said I no longer had to play softball after grade school. I enjoy being a catcher but, man, the games felt soooooooooo long to me at the time. Since my brother took up pitching he hasn’t let up trying to talk me into catching for him. I keep saying ‘no’ since I only have a regular glove now and the kid throws at least mid-60s. I need my hand. As a clever step to succeed in this mission, he took me to the batting cages today and we had a blast. I haven’t swung a bat since eighth grade so we started with the 20mph pitching machines. Wow, it’s a super satisfying feeling to crank those suckers into the far fence. It’s a little hard to miss a softball at 20 but that’s neither here nor there! I might have to look into finding a cheap catchers mitt somewhere… I still have the rest of the gear. All in all, I just really want the Jays to beat the Yankees. Really really badly. And for Boston to do us a favour and start sucking :)

That was baseball, up next is hockey news.

Two huge games tonight! The Pens can eliminate the Caps and the Blackhawks could eliminate the Canucks. I know I should be rooting more for the Canucks since Luongo is awesome and then there are the Sedins and Sundin… but Chicago has more Canadians! I want the Pens to eliminate the Capitals mostly to force some friends of mine in Washington to shut up for a while ;)
