it’s like being reunited with an old friend

Sometimes I feel like a genius. Fear my whimsy. As you may know, I love to write on the walls. That’s been evident since I was first armed with a crayons at a young age. However, I’m still basically that same kid. See, the other day my brother finally returned the desk I lent to him ages ago, a desk near and dear to my heart. I’ve had it since I bought that desk and a matching bookshelf with my first paycheque when I was 13 and working at a sports camp. Yes, I know I’m a dork. That’s pretty much why you are reading this! (Isn’t it?) I did my best work on that desk over the years. However, he had to return it in pieces to make it fit in his car. I’m impressed that it fit even in pieces but since I appropriated a former kitchen table to use as a desk in its absence, I wasn’t ready to move back to ol’ faithful. Oh, and with my huge ass monitors it wasn’t going to fit well anyway unless I wanted my face right up against the screen. I don’t.

I’ve been working on a small writing project in my spare time the last two weeks but it’s been frustrating to me, not for lack of ideas, but lack of writing space. This means wall space, of course. There are plenty of walls around here (4 to be exact) but none are smooth enough to place chart paper and write on and having words that look like stone etchings are of little use to me or the project. Out of nowhere, GENIUS STRIKES. What may be a blinding flash of obviousness to everyone else felt like genius to me when I realized that my desk was just wide enough to hold a piece of chart paper so I could just prop it up against something and write on that. w00t. I even have a partially broken bookshelf that I have it propped up against so I don’t accidentally damage the wall. Pics below.

did I mention w00t?

it works for me!

The best part about this? I still get to write on my old desk ^_^

Yeah, I fully understand — I have a white-board, and it is much more useful than a small piece of paper and pencil for stream of consciousness stuff and drawing.

The only downside is being a lefty I have to be careful not to smudge things.

Oh, I can relate as a fellow left-handed person. I also have a whiteboard but that’s not fun to write on for any stretch of time since it’s very heavy and I can’t mount anything on the wall here so it is awkwardly on the floor. I still accidentally erase what I’m trying to do :( Man, you should have seen me the day I discovered pens that don’t smudge when I write. I was doing cartwheels in the store!
