the sky is still blue

News at 11. I wish I had more to report but the last two days have been blissfully mundane and let me do things like, well, laundry and sleep in my own bed. It doesn’t sound like much to you but after a long time of nights curling up on a couch that’s barely even my tiny height it is PURE UNADULTERATED JOY to spread out on a big ol’ comfy bed and wear freshly cleaned clothes. Seriously, it is.

Earlier tonight — man, I love that Toronto can have traffic issues at 1 am! — I even went out with an old theatre friend for a fancy dinner to catch up on old times. Even taught him how to play Rock Band! For 99.99999% of people on this blog that’s no big deal but sometimes I do take for granted that not everyone was born with a controller in their hands and some of this stuff might be less than intuitive to others.

Things I learned tonight that should have been blindingly obvious: The Guitar Hero 3 controller is definitely far better for people unfamiliar with the genre than the Rock Band (1, I don’t have 2) edition. Also, people that can play instruments in real life (who choose not to look down on console music games, bless their hearts) do have to endure an adjustment period whereupon they learn that it doesn’t matter whether you hit the button high or low but that you hit it AND ONLY IT at the same time as you strum*. However, the most important lesson for new players is “please stop hitting the Xbox button before I come over there and thwack you with my drumsticks, kthx” ;)

*I know there are exceptions to this but we weren’t getting into that tonight. He did manage chords and bog rock endings and saving people when necessary before he progressed to the first tier of medium songs so that was pretty darn dandy for a single night! woo.

Comfort is to often looked upon as unnecessary.
A peaceful mind is more inclined to reason than reaction.
And simplicity can breed the most complex of emotions.

I’ve found myself trying to induce vibrato by shaking the buttons, only to realize it’s still a plastic controller in my hands. lol

lol, Atari6502. I want a Violin Hero that actually teaches you how to play properly, including leftie mode! Back when I actually had a violin I had so many teachers turn me away by virtue of the fact I wanted to play left-handed despite the fact that I’m not the only one!
