Word to the wise: never start cleaning out a storage room when you should be going to bed instead. I found a zillion old photos from my childhood and now everything save for that room is a disaster zone.
Not only did I finally find all my original Playstation games that I was starting to convince myself I lost 2 moves ago but tons of other fascinating (to me) stuff. Tons of old-to-ancient tech, my Virtual Boy, a dozen or so orphaned adapters, old china tea sets, binders galore, and era spanning pictures. From black and white photos of my grandparents and great aunts to my parents wedding to my own birth and beyond. It was amazing to see pictures of my first dog as a puppy and doing random things with my brother as kids. I’d post some of the photos of us together but then I think he’d set a new land speed record by how fast he’d drive over here to kick my ass. I think it’s safe to say that I’m not likely to get a lot of sleep tonight. Better to be ‘productive’ rather than playing World of Warcraft, eh? ;)
I’m not completely heartless so I won’t tease you with this treasure trove discovery without scanning a few to post online.

Oh, Shadow (white) and Nikki (red) as puppies were just so ridiculously awesome and hilarious. I miss Shadow a lot but Nikki is still prancing around like she’s that same puppy. I have no idea how or when my Dad took this photo but I’m really glad I found it again before the paper turned any more yellow.

Fine, so I spent a good chunk of time reminiscing about my dogs. Also of note is that table in the background which I dubbed an ‘immovable object’. Man, I’m lucky I still have shins and kneecaps with all the running around inside I did cause that table is a freakin’ rock and I was in no way an unstoppable force. Ow.
And now, since I know I’ll get flamed if I do another photo post that has no photos of me anywhere to be found, here’s a real oldie that I didn’t think there were any records of:

10 points to those of you that knew this was a Ringette photo without looking at the name of the image. Bonus 10 points to those of you knew it was Ringette and managed not to laugh out loud. The rest of you are probably already laughing at me in that photo anyway. No, I don’t know what was up with my hair. I swear side ponytails were popular at the time. Or I can just blame my Mom for doing it up that way. I was wearing cooperalls and pink laces with a red jersey so style was obviously not a concern of mine ;) The gunk I had to peel off the photo to be able to scan it didn’t clean well either. See, back in the day I wasn’t allowed to play hockey with the guys and there weren’t any girls’ leagues I could run off and join. Ringette was fun and it helped turn me into a great skater but I was absolutely thrilled when I was finally allowed to go play hockey for real.

I loved the Barbie Hot Dog Stand pictured above. I can’t seem to find any other photos of it online –not that I’m looking all that hard at 3am — and this was only the picture of me and the box but, I’m telling you, this thing was awesome. Barbies, Turtles, Batmans (yes, plural), Transformers, and G.I. Joes all hung out there. You’ve also gotta appreciate that very old school chair pattern in the background.

Top dog photo is great. It’s like they posed for the photo. Hard to believe that people dress up for Christmas, it looks like your all dolled up and I imaging the father in tuxedo. In my family we are all just ugly sweat pants wearing in the morning. Although I guess if your going to some religious function or party the other people would appreciate you dressing up. Thank Darwin I’m agnostic and party-less.
Did you hair lighten as you got older?
A 30second time clock? Cool and interesting. I wonder if the NHL prior to dumping two line passes and such to speed up the game didn’t consider a time clock.
This should do the trick…

Nate: believe it or not but I loved dresses as a kid. Actually, I STILL love dresses and dressing up but it’s harder to find occasions to :(
n0wak: no, it’s weird. My hair got lighter and my brother’s hair started lighter and got darker.
Mark: heh. I had almost forgotten about that. I mostly played net and D so I didn’t do a lot of shooting, I just had to move it up the ice as fast as I could.
Thanks Colin, that’s EXACTLY what it was like. Heck, I even had the same dolls and clothes!
