SMRT

A friend drove me to his house earlier today since we were hanging out off our campus — strikes and picket lines don’t make for the best background scenery — and it all started out well enough. My DS Lite has been accompanying me everywhere thanks to Final Fantasy IV DS and I’ve been gaining levels in the Lodestone Cavern cause the Dark Elf just ticks me right off. After what Mythril gear cost me I can’t wait to whack him to death with it! I’m at the point where I can one-shot everything in the cave so that’s probably a good start. Cecil is over 2,000 HP and even Tellah is annoyingly close to 1,000 HP so I need to see that happen before we head off to rescue Rosa. Anyway…

It was a lovely, sunny, beautiful day so we thought we’d head out for a run. My friend’s roommate chats with us a bit before we head out and he goes back downstairs and, when we return, the door is locked, the roomie is nowhere to be found, and we are pretty much screwed. With our phones, keys, wallets, and any other useful thing locked inside the house we were trying to remember the numbers of local friends so we could borrow a phone. I had lots of people I could call but borrowing a phone to make a long distance call is a tad crass. Thankfully, I recalled my roommate’s number so we gave Cookie a call to try and send her down the hall to find anyone with a car to pick us up. Just our luck, the whole floor went out to Swiss Chalet thirty minutes ago and they weren’t too keen on leaving. It’s starting to get dark at this point and we’re outside in our running clothes and I was lucky enough to have a windbreaker on. Another neighbour’s kid was wandering about with a laptop and was kind enough to let us hop on to our MSN account to try and track other people down. My friend had no luck but my brother was online even though he didn’t appear to be at his desk/answering messages. I took a chance and spelled out our predicament (and address) and asked begged him to come and get us unless he heard a call from us otherwise saying that it was all good. Then I had to give back the laptop. 10 minutes later he let us use his laptop again and my brother’s MSN subname had changed to “{driving} …goddammit.” so I knew he was totally thrilled about coming to save us ;)

He actually did a great job since he showed up as we were starting to get really cold. While it was fun meeting all the neighbours and discovering that there were other students in the area so we could bitch about the strike I definitely wanted to get back to residence and grab some food and water. We’re still working on getting back into my friend’s house since his roommate is nowhere to be found but he promises me I will get back all my stuff tomorrow asap since it’s impossible for me to get around the school, eat, or even buy off-campus food without my student card and wallet.

Stupid Dark Elf. Looks like you get to live another day.

Hello

That game is what started my rpg obsession some 18 years ago with FFII on the SNES. So from that to Infinite Undiscovery as of late….

Is this your first time through or had you played the previous versions?

Glad to see you back online last night so guess you made it home in one piece:)

Oh, I’m home but I *still* have no student ID, no phone, and no money :(

This is my 800,000,002nd time through Final Fantasy II/IV (approximately). I’m one of those weird people that even likes it more than III/VI so I do own every single previous North American release of it. Ok, so I own every previous re-re-release of all the Final Fantasy games, too.

Yes I’ve been through it a few times too:) And Yes, I still like it more then III/VI also. Theres still the saved game on my original SNES version where I got everybody up to level 99 which was the first playthrough of the game also.

Back in my snes days I used to record all the end of the game finishes and of course I can’t find the dang tape of them anymore:(

@Jenn You should get on Hak5BBS and play Legend of the Red Dragon with us when you can, telnet://bbs.hak5.org

Unfortunately it’s full right now (50 players max), but there will be open spots soon because the game drops people who haven’t logged on in 14 days.

BTW: Watch out for Roguehart
