Part 30 of 800,000: Don’t misstep onto the bosu ball and somehow knock only the nail of your thumb so it bends outwards at a 90 degree angle and bleeds everywhere.
Amazingly, it didn’t hurt. I was more surprised than anything else. I’ve been told that the pain will catch up to me later but I cleaned it extremely carefully and thoroughly, then iced it for a while once I got back home. There’s no dried blood anywhere, which is nice, and I was even able to trim the nail after a shower. I covered the thumb with clingwrap and some hockey tape to try and keep soap out of it and it mostly worked but, still, no pain. Woo. It’s tender if I try to pinch something between my thumb and forefinger but I’m optimistic that this will heal well since it really looks like there’s not much wrong with it. There’s barely a crease to show where the nail was bent. It’s been a fun story to tell people since they all make great squishy faces during the bending part. Granted, this is not something I want to happen again so I will make sure to keep my generally short nails even shorter!
I’m glad that this wasn’t my left hand so I can still finish my homework this weekend without issue. I don’t know why 4/5 of my profs this semester banned laptops but it’s annoying since I generally write out my notes on my tablet and now that’s out. While I have a zillion markers for writing on the wall and left-handed approved pens (no smudging!) in every colour of the rainbow I do lack anything in the blue or black range. This will soon be corrected.
