It took a while for me to get the pictures up here since I was kinda out enjoying my birthday with a dear friend. From my e-mail people expected me to be out getting drunk off my ass but I was actually sitting in a beautiful backyard with said dear friend drinking sweet berry tea and enjoying muffins chatting about life. It was perfect and EXACTLY what I needed :)

Yup, used 8GB iPhone unlocked and jailbroken! Note that this isn’t the new 3G model. I haven’t played with it a lot (at all) yet since iTunes refuses to talk to it with my Rogers SIM card. Thankfully my friend also sent his old unneeded US SIM card, too, so iTunes agrees to work with that and I was able to load some music on it and rename it to my liking. I am definitely an iPhone n00b so I have a lot of studying to do to get this working exactly as I wish. I also have no data plan at all so I will be relying entirely on wifi for the fun apps. This is a-ok with me since I don’t have to police my data usage this way and my campus wifi does work with it. Once fall hits I will rarely be off campus, anyway.
I also got two other lovely gifts — I was trying to get my folks to help me (*cough*spring for*cough*) buy new drool-worthy PC parts but no dice. Instead we came to a lovely arrangement that I can talk about next year sometime! A plane trip is involved, woo — like Lego Indiana Jones and funky Nike Duro Headphones from the person that sent the iPhone to make sure I had a headset that would fit. He knew how much I hated the in-ear type and how I love listenting to music on my old 2GB iriver at the gym so this was just super thoughtful all around!! ^_^

Nice!
I got an iPhone 3G the day it came out. I hear you guys really get screwed with the contract.
I bought mine as a treat for myself, all my other phones have been hand-me-downs (There’s a reason for my parent’s getting new phones… the old one doesn’t work!). Also it’s my first phone on a contract, no more topping up for me!
(ScummVM FTW! Runs perfectly.)
Congrats on the new iPhone. I kept my 1st gen iPhone and my wife got a 3G iPhone. There really isn’t much difference between the two iPhones. Where we live in the US, we can ‘t get the 3G in our neighborhood. So my wife uses EDGE on her 3G iPhone.
Sorry about the Rodgers data plan. I thought the phone plans in the US were bad, but the plans from Rodgers sounds terrible!
The must-have app for the iPhone is the phone saber. It’s all I ever need.
I would be interested in hearing which games for the iPhone that you like. Perhaps you could review a few iPhone games?
No data plan, but that’s a choice! I’m not telling Rogers I switched from my massive Nokia (which they had to give me because my Razr refused to take any calls whatsoever) so I’m not using the official iPhone data plan thingamabober. This is all new to me and I have a project to do this weekend but next week I hope to do some forum diving and:
1.) get my phone to talk with my PC using my Canadian SIM card
2.) get some apps working through 1.1.4 and then
3.) get some games
Reviews can come after all that :)
Happy Birthday, enjoy all your shiny new toys.
Wooo…virtual buttons…o.0
Happy birthday! I’m getting a new phone myself one of these days, but an iPhone is definitely out of the question. Waaay too expensive, especially here in Belgium. Will probably be an HTC Touch.
