don’t mind me

Some behind the scenes tweaks going on later today/tonight with jenncutter.com and openalpha.tv so don’t mind if things are a little wonky. Either way this site should be up more than twitter has of late so I have that to console myself ;)

I hated this stage

I know this is old but I still love it. It’s also appropriate since my exam today felt like those stupid/annoying/frustrating block parts in Air Man’s stage. A final should not be a moving target, kthxbye :(

editing

I don’t think I’ve ever had an evening with Adobe Premiere (yes, still 1.5 over here) crashing as much like tonight. After my meetings today and getting my 360 gamerscore up over 8000 finally - - not that you can tell since it’s offline. My goal is 10k by my birthday! - - I thought I’d kick back and get to editing the new OpenAlpha that I shot weeks ago now. It took approximately 2 hours to get a usable 4 minute block. This might be the biggest project file I’ve ever worked with* and Premiere was not shy about expressing its displeasure by shutting down anytime I asked it to do something. I think it just hates WMVs. That’ll learn me to take better care of my original files so I don’t have to resort to using ugly compressed files even though I’m almost out of hard drive space. I feel bad since I’m teasing you with the fact that there is a new OA but it’s not ready yet. I have an Algorithms + Programming exam next Tuesday worth half my final mark so after my always-epic Thursday (booked from 9am-9pm with class, lab, teaching and trying desperately to eat somewhere in there) I’m going to hide myself from humanity and attempt to study my brains out. Conveniently, this will be away from my consoles and editing PC.

Anyway, I haven’t put any research into this yet but if anyone knows why Premiere will occasionally ‘lose’ the video from the clips I’m working on, I’d love to hear it. It all starts out fine but then all my clips will have perfect audio but the video appears to be a solid puke green, grey, or white. A quit and re-launch clears it up for a time but I highly doubt that is the optimal solution.

*don’t get too excited; I’m not talking about length here! OA = short. Except for that one World of Warcraft episode that was near epic and unlikely to be repeated unless I get THAT into a game/world again. There were just a greater number clips than I normally work with this time around.

FONTELLA

This was less painful than expected. I was feeling rather ill the last 24 hours but it seems to have cleared up (yay!) and I got to sit and play with the blog for a bit. I added in a twitter thingamabobber as promised but I’ll ditch the flash one after my exam next week if not sooner. Also, and this is something I had been meaning to do since the days I was only known as LadyGuardian, I’m going to play with showing off my desktops for a bit. It’s a little sad, actually. I have gigs and gigs of wallpaper since I change them so frequently and I grab them like someone is going to take them away any second now. It is entirely possible that I will get bored with wallpapers and replace that block with the doodles from my tablet when I’m in class. Who knows? I sure don’t.

The theme of the moment is a tweaked version of Fontella and it reminds me that I really need to clean up my categories and archives as well. This is a chore for after some sleep lest I get annoyed and wipe everything for the umpteeth time.

I’m fickle

I’m glad to have this domain being more than a mere pointer page but I don’t like the CMS. I think I want to go back to how I used to work in the ladyguardian.com days: boring old html! I really like the N+ aesthetic and I want to play around in photoshop again and get back into design. OpenAlpha is still functional so, contrary to my traditional impulse, I’ll leave it alone rather than nuke it from orbit without having a proper replacement anywhere near ready. OA is simple and clean and boring and lame but, hey, it works. This site, however, does not work for me. Yes, the server has been up and running without major outages for more than a week (knock on wood!) but it’s kinda fugly even though I like the tumblr-ripoff aspect of it. Despite myself I find that I’m enjoying twitter and I will have a phone later this summer that will let me upload text and images without issue and that’s when I will seriously abuse the service. So whatever I come up with for here will have some actual images, twitter integration and, most importantly, some personality again :)

In my brain I’m going, “this week is mad-crazy with assignments and meetings and my TA hours and marking and my exam next Tuesday, WTH AM I THINKING?!!” But I need something other than N+ to keep me sane and fiddling with design is just what the doc ordered.
