awesome saturday

That day alone totally made up for the supbar week. I was pretty close to smacking a friend of mine upside the head Friday.

setting: in the hall of my wing in res

Friend: Ooh! Jenn!! I need to talk to you. How would you like to sing the anthem at a Windsor game?
my brain: zomg yes yes yes yes yes YES. … Say something!
Me: Are you kidding? I’d love too! That’s a huge honour.
Friend: Great! The game’s in 20 minutes.
my brain: &^%$. She’s really kidding this time, right?
Friend: I meant to ask you last night but I was busy and lost track.
my brain: if you left that part out I would still like you right now. You have 10 second to run before I snap.
Me: Um, that’s not a whole lot of time there eh.

The rest of the conversation was less than coherent since she was on the phone with the PR person who initially asker her to sing it or find someone else. At least I might get another chance down the road so I’m not going to dwell on it. I was pretty annoyed for a few hours though. We actually won our Friday hockey game, too. I missed music and went to the game and I was regretting my choice when it looked like we were going to have to forfeit. Slowly other members of our team appeared and the league convenor felt so bad about sticking us with another daytime game on short notice so he recruited some players from the game before to help us out. He didn’t just grab bodies; he cherry picked the best players and that was good and bad. This ended up being our first win of the season but I can’t be too proud of it since we had the added firepower. I wasn’t gonna be a party pooper in the room but I know in my heart that we didn’t really earn it.

An old friend from the bank finally managed to make some time and get together for dinner. We tried out Oishii and I was not overly impressed. I think I’ve been spoiled by the great sushi in Toronto where it’s cheaper too. Nonetheless, we had fun and capped off our time together with a Wii Sports and Wii Play gauntlet run. While I’m glad that I only lost in baseball and rocked every other event I think I actually overdid it since my shoulder is a tad touchy. It better heal for Tuesday when Mario Galaxy finally comes out!! Friday night was a super late one since I couldn’t get near the laundry room until the wee hours. Man, I hate people that use 5-8 machines at a time. It’s just mean. My rule of thumb is that if you can’t carry it in one trip, it’s too much. Jerks. But I did get to meet some great people while traipsing across the lobby in my pyjamas a dozen times. Also great was a late night Marvel Ultimate Alliance session with some friends. I love that game and playing it with three friends and headsets is way better than going through it alone . Eventually we’re going to try and marathon hard one of these weekends and I can’t wait. I <3 Deadpool :)

Saturday was tons of fun though. I managed to get up in the morning to get to the gym and finally really woke up halfway through the spin class so at least I finished strong and made up for my weak-ass class last time. For lunch I even managed to get a decent falafel in this town for a change. Basically it was the same old lousy one they always serve but I had the sense to smother it in decent hummus and lots of other toppings. Then I promptly fell asleep in my room for a few hours. It was grand. Alas, I woke up eventually and headed back to the gym for a run. Since the track was booked all day I had to use the treadmill and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. Running outside you get scenery and a sense of the distance you’ve covered. On the indoor track at least you get the distance feeling as well as no worries about the wind pushing you around. Treadmill? It was freakin’ hot in there but I liked messing with the incline and speed since it definitely keeps you on a steady pace. I’m also stunned at how much I enjoy running these days. It used to be the bane of my existence in field hockey and, honestly, one of the main reasons I ended up being a goalie (the other being that there was zero chance I was gonna run around a field in a kilt and a mouthguard). Running had all sorts of negative connotations for me with all the beep tests and distance runs while in full equipment and various warm up drills. Now those are all in the past and I really look forward to each run. In fact, I might even do a half marathon in March :)
