wii need to talk

by Jenn on Sunday, October 14, 2007

I cleaned my dorm room from top to bottom this afternoon. I tidied up, dusted, swept, and even mopped! Then, somehow, I went from that to spending 3 hours trying to get my Wii working again. I’m not sure why it insists on being so difficult. Even my 360 and PS3 never give me this much grief! The Wii always has to stop and think about everything. Want to play a game? Maybe, let me think first. Ok. I can load your game now. Want to check the weather? Hmmm, I’m not sure. You’re going to have to reboot several times before I can be convinced. Wow, you actually read the news channel? I suppose I can bring that up right after I finish chatting up your friend’s Mii. It’s more than a little frustrating.

After each update it seems to clear up for a while before returning to old habits. Dewy’s Adventure is supposed to actually come out tomorrow and I guess that’s what inspired me to charge my controllers, finally order the Jacket Sleeves, and kill way too much time that I could be using to play Albatross18. I mean, study. Yes, study. I’m not particularly worried about my Introduction to the Internet course but it would be nice to get a sweet score on my Psychology midterm to keep my average nice and high.

It bothers me that the Wii takes so long to switch between channels. The UI really does need to be made a lot snappier IMHO. Apart from the slow startup-times though, I haven’t noticed any other flakiness with the Weather or News channels. (Not that I use those channels very often – looking out the window seems a lot more accurate than the Weather Channel! ;^) )
