It’s a mathematical term, really!

f(u) = e^x

We’re supposed to get our Curve Sketching tests back on Wednesday and our next test is this Friday on Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. If the last unit didn’t kick my ass all over the place as if to say “Are you sure you’re ready for a math degree considering you haven’t seen this stuff in 6 years?” this one sure is. I understand the math. I know all about derivatives. I can graph (now without a calculator!). But I can’t seem to get my head around working with e. Probably because I’ve never seen it before and even the text assumes that you’ve got previous experience. I dislike going in to the Math Resource Centre because they are often not that interested in helping you or at least are not very nice about it. Alas, I’ve got to suck it up and give it another shot. I might be there a lot over the next few years ;)

Would Maple be helpful in visualizing functions?

Its about 120 Cdn for the student editon.

I forgot almost all of the math I took in college. If the math dept doesnt seem that helpful how about the Engineering Dept? Especially the Electrical Engineering, all that sin wave fn and capacitance/impedence frequency response uses lots of e^x.
