The Never-Ending Math Parade

by Jenn on Sunday, July 22, 2007

As proud as I am that I was able to re-teach myself Curve Sketching in time for the test (still awaiting the results. He’s not the world’s fastest marker) it’s just a tiny event with regards to life in math since there’s always something else to learn.

Me: Yay! We finished the unit! Time to sleep :)
Prof: And now we move on to..
Me: Whaddaya mean? There’s more?! Phooey.
(Jenn carefully drags books out of the bonfire)

I’m actually a little sad that Curve Sketching is at an end since I actually enjoy it now that the whole thing makes sense to me. Pity this was the unit that gave me such headaches in high school since I approached it here with nothing but fear and loathing and that’s no way to learn. It was only once I got over myself and realized that I had to cram it through my thick skull or otherwise fail the test that I was finally able to approach it objectively. Having some old notes from my younger brother was nice too since he neatly summarized the first and second derivative test for me. Nonetheless, it’s onward to Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.

This may be a minor thing but I’m strangely proud of myself for opening my books on a Sunday and actually working ahead. I hope I can make a habit of it.

Keep up the good work Jenn! You are a smart girl. It’s true sometimes our instincts tell us to choose play over study. However, I think as university students, our hearts keep reminding us study is our priority. Listen to your heart, Jenn.
