It’s my birthday tomorrow. I have no classes but I have no idea what to do.
I spent the weekend in hardcore veg-mode. I rented a zillion movies and took break by going for lots of walks around town. I saw the entire third season of Scrubs and Connie & Carla and The Birdcage so far. I only got into Scrubs because of the musical episode with Stephanie D’Abruzzo but I think I will look to rent the rest of the series to get totally caught up before the last season this fall. But that’s not really what I want to do for my birthday either. In the past I… have no idea. Graeme was usually around to take me out or I went to The Second City but now I’m in Windsor and the one friend I made moved back to Toronto.
I bought myself a gift from Amazon.ca and it actually arrived a day early so at least I have some new books to read. I dunno. I might finally try that sushi place in “Downtown Windsor” (yes, it is funny for me to call what’s here a downtown since I came from Toronto) though it will be hard pressed to compete with the places I used to frequent back home. Anyway, I’m not as sad as this entry suggests. It’s a beautiful day outside. I’m making real progress with Music Theory and Calculus today made perfect sense. The prof assigned a ridiculous amount of homework today but with the long weekend coming up I might just hold off and do it along with Wednesday’s assignment(s) when I’m back in Toronto so my puppies can keep my company again.
Why does this always happen the night before a test?
I climb into bed at around 11 and then there’s a kick ass lightning storm outside. I had the good sense to unplug everything in my room once I figured out that, yes, it was lightning and not trucks with their highbeams on so at least everything survived the night. Burying my face in my pillow I was able to ignore the light show outside and finally drift off to sleep around 12:30. Later on, at some ungodly hour, the rest of the storm followed and this was impossible to ignore and get any proper sleep. You know that weird state wherein you’re neither conscious or out? You’re just kinda lying there, mostly aware of what’s going on in the room around you but still in a dream-like state where you’re interacting with your usual dreams. One second I’m walking on a bridge to the train and the next I can see the eerie shadows on the wall from my Wii and Wavebird before I’m instantly on the train because that’s how long I was out of the dream for. It’s actually fun when you don’t have to drag yourself to class and recall a chapter’s worth of information on e^x, ln, and log. I still think I did alright but I guess I’ll know sometime next week.

I picked up a new bookbag for $5 and I did some laundry. It was a sad day, really. I hope tomorrow is better.

I head out in the morning and come home to a big-ass disconnect notice from Cogeco. Hmm. I call their billing department first to make sure that my deposits reached their destination. “You’re all up to date, ma’am.” *cringe* I hate that term. Anyway, I explain why I called to check and she tells me that a previous tenant owes a few hundred dollars so the house was cut off while I was out. Lovely. They promised to send someone out to patch me up again later that day but it miraculously came back on its own a few hours later. Makes me wish I had brought my math texts with me when I left the house this morning since now it’s too late to pay a visit to math department for a hand. Grr. Whether I know it or not the test is still on Friday. Then the exam is August 20th. The prof actually suggested that we redo every single homework question on top of the assigned review. When does he think we’ll have the time?? We all kind of looked at him for a moment to see if he was kidding. No such luck.
At least I have the internet back again. I don’t have a doorbell so I was basically hovering near the front windows to wait for a van to show up and that wasn’t the most productive time I’ve ever spent. It was kind of sad, really. Every time a vehicle went by I’d eagerly look up to see if it would stop in front of my address.
f(u) = e^x
We’re supposed to get our Curve Sketching tests back on Wednesday and our next test is this Friday on Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. If the last unit didn’t kick my ass all over the place as if to say “Are you sure you’re ready for a math degree considering you haven’t seen this stuff in 6 years?” this one sure is. I understand the math. I know all about derivatives. I can graph (now without a calculator!). But I can’t seem to get my head around working with e. Probably because I’ve never seen it before and even the text assumes that you’ve got previous experience. I dislike going in to the Math Resource Centre because they are often not that interested in helping you or at least are not very nice about it. Alas, I’ve got to suck it up and give it another shot. I might be there a lot over the next few years ;)
